From joining us as an apprentice six years ago to becoming a skilled landscaper and an integral part of the Gadd Brothers team, Morgan has developed his skills, knowledge and experience across some of our most demanding projects. Morgan also has multiple machinery tickets to operate a digger, dumper and telehandler and so will often be the first port of call for heaving loads and precision work.
We took five minutes away from the tools to find out a his favourite project to date, the task he finds most satisfying on site and the one thing he wishes more people understood about landscape construction.
Here’s what he had to say…
What has been your favourite project you’ve worked on so far and why?
Birds Pasture Farm, for sure as it was my first full build at Gadd Brothers. There were so many firsts for me on that project as it featured so many different elements of hard and soft landscaping. It even included a roof terrace which was very enjoyable and a natural swimming pool which happens to be the only time I have been part of constructing in 6 years so far.

What would be one thing about landscape construction that you wish more people understood?
A lot more goes on underneath a finished garden than people probably realise. People don’t see all the things which are covered up but are crucial to the structure and functionality of the garden. The irrigation systems that we install are a great example. We can spend time planning, installing and testing a system them for them just to be hidden beneath the finished landscape and unless you know they’re there it wouldn’t even cross your mind.
Most satisfying landscaping task to complete and why?
I would have to say the instant hedging installs that we do. It is so satisfying to see an area go from having nothing to a fully mature hedge in a couple of days, if not a single day.
What is one bit of landscaping kit that would be on your wish list?
I would have to say a pot grab for the Avant loader for tree and shrub planting- I have been asking for one for ages!
What’s your favourite material to work with and what makes it so great?
My favourite would have to be steel because it starts to show the shape of the garden before much else is in.
What do you enjoy doing on evenings and weekends?
Currently I spend most of my time in the gym, but the rugby season is about to start so that will be a lot of my free time training and playing for Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club.
